Mission
The Museum Futures Group interrogates the museum as institution and unlocks its potential in terms of cross-sector partnerships and innovative curatorial practices/interventions.
Aims
- To investigate the museum as a multi-functional institution using theoretical approaches and empirical research.
- To focus on the museum as site of collective memory, education, entertainment and agent of social change and urban regeneration.
- To facilitate long term partnerships/short term collaborations between HE establishments, museums/galleries, and commercial institutions.
- To offer consultancy services with student involvement in order to deliver collections/archives to new audiences through innovative curatorial/spatial practices and interventions.
- To involve community groups in processes of curation and provision of alternative sites for display of local narratives.
- To publish academic/journalistic articles, deliver conference papers and make public documentation of ongoing collaborative projects through the group website.
- To create opportunities for exchange of ideas between museum, HE and commercial sectors through networking events and symposia.
